Nigerian Army Dismantles Illegal Refineries, Seizes Stolen Oil Worth N250 Million
The Nigerian Army's 6 Division has intensified operations against oil bunkering, deactivating 10 illegal refineries and recovering stolen petroleum products valued over N250 million. This action is pivotal as Nigeria aims for a crude oil production target of 2.06 million barrels per day amid rising concerns about oil theft impacting supply.

From April 1 to 26, 2026, the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army conducted operations in the Niger Delta, resulting in the deactivation of 10 illegal refineries and the seizure of over 130,000 litres of stolen crude oil. A total of nine suspected oil thieves were arrested, and confiscated products, including Automotive Gas Oil, were valued over N250 million.
The operations included uncovering various storage sites and equipment used for oil theft across Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom states. The current security efforts are critical as Nigeria's crude oil production target is threatened by ongoing oil theft, raising concerns about infrastructure security in the region.
