Nigerian Army Identifies Shariff Umar as Key Figure in Suicide Bombing Network in Maiduguri
The Nigerian Army has identified Shariff Umar, also known as Yusuf, as the key coordinator of a suicide bombing network responsible for recent attacks in North-East Nigeria. Following intelligence operations in Maiduguri, 14 suspects were arrested, revealing Umar's involvement in recruiting bombers and orchestrating logistics for explosive devices, including a December 24 bombing at Gamboru Market Mosque. The army continues to investigate the network and urges public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.

The Nigerian Army has identified Shariff Umar, also known as Yusuf, as the principal coordinator of a suicide bombing network linked to recent attacks in the North-East. This identification followed intelligence-led operations on December 31, 2025, in Maiduguri's Kalmari area, resulting in the arrest of 14 suspects.
Investigations revealed Umar's central role in recruiting and dispatching suicide bombers, including coordinating logistics for improvised explosive devices (IEDs). He was directly involved in the December 24, 2025, suicide bombing at Gamboru Market Mosque and is linked to a foiled attack in Damaturu.
His wife and stepdaughter were also implicated in the network. The army emphasized the ongoing investigations to dismantle the cell and recover remaining explosives, urging public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.
