Nigerian Army Seeks Enhanced Cooperation with U.S. Army for Security Challenges
The Nigerian Army is seeking to enhance collaboration with the U.S. Army to bolster its operational effectiveness and institutional capacity in addressing security challenges. During a meeting in Abuja, Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu emphasized the value of U.S. military training and expertise, while U.S. Defence Attaché Lt. Col. Semira Moore reaffirmed America's commitment to strengthening military ties through capacity building, intelligence sharing, and joint planning.

Col. Semira Moore on January 14, 2026, in Abuja. Shaibu highlighted the benefits of U.S. military training and expertise, noting many Nigerian officers are alumni of U.S. institutions.
The partnership seeks to leverage U.S. experience in both kinetic and non-kinetic operations. Moore reaffirmed U.S. commitment to strengthen military ties, focusing on capacity building, intelligence sharing, and joint planning. U.S. support will continue in humanitarian assistance and troop welfare initiatives.
