The Nigerian Navy launched Operation Delta Sentinel to enhance maritime security and support the Federal Government's goal of 2.5 million barrels per day crude oil production by 2027. The operation, which replaces Operation Delta Sanity, aims to combat oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta and offshore.
Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim, Commander of Task Group 26.1, stated that the initiative involves increased naval presence, intelligence-driven operations, and collaboration with various stakeholders. The operation will run for one year, subject to renewal every 90 days, and is part of a broader effort to bolster oil production and protect national assets.
