The Nigerian Senate Committee on National Security has raised concerns over the envelope budgeting system impacting allocations for security and intelligence agencies. Chairman Sen. Yahaya Abdullahi stressed the necessity of increased funding in light of President Bola Tinubu's declaration of a national security emergency.
The committee noted that previous non-releases of capital funds have adversely affected the operational capabilities of security agencies. The House Committee on National Security supported these views, calling for greater funding and collaboration between the executive and legislature to enhance national security. The proposed budget for 2026 allocates ₦5.41 trillion to defense and security, with the intelligence subsector receiving ₦664.12 million for personnel, overhead, and capital expenditures.
