Nigeria's Gas Development Initiatives to Boost Economy and Lower Living Costs
The Nigerian government aims to leverage its 209 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves to enhance economic prosperity and reduce living costs. Key initiatives include investments in gas infrastructure, domestic utilization for power, and expanding liquefied natural gas exports.

Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon Ekperikpe Ekpo, emphasized the government's commitment to utilizing the nation's 209 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves to boost economic growth and lower living expenses. This includes investments in gas infrastructure for transportation and distribution, promoting domestic gas use in power generation, and expanding liquefied natural gas (LNG) export capabilities.
The Minister highlighted that 60% of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board's (NCDMB) investments are gas-based and called for a focus on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) projects. Ongoing development in the gas sector can generate revenue and position Nigeria favorably in the global market, but stakeholders must ensure effective execution of these initiatives to realize their full potential.
