Nikkiso Supplies CO2 Purification System for Canada's Deep Sky Alpha DAC Facility
Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group has supported the commissioning of Deep Sky Alpha in Alberta, Canada, the country's first facility for carbon dioxide capture and storage. This facility is also termed the world's first cross-technology Direct Air Capture (DAC) platform.
Nikkiso delivered a centralized CO2 purification and liquefaction system that processes output from all DAC units, designed to accommodate future DAC technologies. Deep Sky Alpha captures CO2 from the atmosphere, purifies and liquefies it, and stores it underground.
Powered by renewable solar energy, it aims to achieve carbon-negative operations by removing more CO2 than is emitted during its lifecycle. The facility can host up to 10 DAC systems and has the potential to extract up to 3,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
