NNSA, Sandia, and Kansas City National Security Campus Launch CAMINO Facility for Nuclear Security Prototyping
The NNSA, Sandia National Laboratories, and the Kansas City National Security Campus opened the CAMINO facility on February 12 to enhance rapid prototyping for nuclear weapons hardware and national security missions. Located at the Science and Technology Park near Kirtland Air Force Base, CAMINO integrates research with production capabilities. The facility aims to accelerate technology maturation and reduce development life cycles, facilitating earlier involvement of production agencies in design processes.

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Sandia National Laboratories, and the Kansas City National Security Campus inaugurated the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation (CAMINO) on February 12. Situated at the Science and Technology Park near Kirtland Air Force Base, CAMINO aims to enhance rapid prototyping and development for nuclear weapons hardware.
The facility connects foundational research with applied production, allowing for quicker technology maturation. The event featured demonstrations of 3D printing and wire EDM equipment. Sandia and KCNSC leadership emphasized the importance of integrated operations to meet national security demands.
