No Waste Army Drives Potato Sales Amid Surplus During National Potato Week
The National Potato Week initiative aims to help farmers sell excess potatoes from regions in the Netherlands. This includes a donation program for potatoes to Ukraine and the food bank, addressing both surplus and food security.

No Waste Army is facilitating the sale of surplus potatoes from seven registered farmers across multiple Dutch provinces, including Flevoland and Gelderland. Consumers can order 10 kg of potatoes directly from farmers, with prices set at €4.35 for organic and €3.65 for conventional varieties.
The initiative also allows for donations, with 20 kg of potatoes for Ukraine priced at €11.90. ZLTO supports the initiative, although they are not directly involved. Market conditions are pushing farmers to consider reducing potato production by up to 20%.
Contract adjustments are emerging, shifting harvest risk to farmers, which raises concerns about pricing transparency. This could impact future negotiations and the overall stability of the potato market.
