NordSpace Advances Robotic AFP Systems for Orbital Launch Vehicles
NordSpace has achieved a key milestone by producing its first automated fiber placement (AFP) components for launch vehicles. This development enhances Canada’s capability in manufacturing lightweight composite pressure vessels for the Tundra and Titan launch vehicles.

NordSpace is integrating large-scale robotic AFP technologies to manufacture light-lift flight tanks and primary structures for its Tundra launch vehicle, with plans to scale for the Titan vehicle. The company is collaborating with Addcomp and receiving support from BDC, Addcomposites, Investissement Québec, and Sherbrooke Innovante.
These advancements are expected to enhance payload capacities and responsiveness in orbital launch capabilities, benefiting various Canadian industries, including aviation and defense. Additionally, NordSpace is focused on developing composite pressure vessels and cryogenic propellant handling, aiming for lightweight, reusable launch systems. The production of flight-scale orbital tanks is imminent.
