Norsk Hydro Reduces CO₂ Emissions by 35% with Vessel Upgrades
Norsk Hydro's upgrades to two cargo vessels have achieved a 35% reduction in CO₂ emissions on a critical European shipping route. This initiative supports Hydro's target of a 30% reduction in logistics emissions by 2030 and aims for net-zero emissions by 2050, highlighting the potential for decarbonization in the shipping sector.

Norsk Hydro has implemented energy-efficient technologies on the Trans Sol and Trans Hav vessels, achieving a 35% reduction in CO₂ emissions. These vessels, operated by Sea-Cargo, transport low-carbon aluminium products from Norway to Europe.
The upgrades include wind-assisted propulsion, solar power, battery storage, and optimized systems designed to enhance fuel efficiency without sacrificing operational reliability. This project accounts for roughly 20% of Hydro Aluminium Metal's emissions reduction target, underscoring the significance of focused improvements in high-volume transport routes. Hydro is committed to reducing logistics emissions by 30% by 2030 and aims for net-zero emissions by 2050, addressing the shipping sector's role in global greenhouse gas emissions.
