North Carolina Democrat Don Davis Faces Scrutiny Over $40,000 Office Renovation Expenses
Don Davis, a House Democrat from North Carolina, reported over $40,000 in expenses for refurbishing his district office, sparking criticism as he prepares for the midterm elections. The expenditures, primarily for furniture and design, have raised questions regarding fiscal responsibility amid rising costs faced by constituents.

In the second quarter of 2023, Congressman Don Davis reported $27,300 in taxpayer-funded habitation expenses and $13,030 for office supplies and furniture, making him the second highest spender among House members. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee defended these expenses as necessary for maintaining effective constituent services.
However, his spending has drawn criticism from Republican counterparts, framing it as out of touch with the financial struggles faced by North Carolinians. Comparatively, fellow North Carolina Democrat Valerie Foushee reported under $3,000 in similar expenses. Davis will compete against retired Army Colonel Laurie Buckhout in the upcoming general election.
