North Irwin Route 993 Bridge Construction to Commence After 12-Year Delay
Construction of a new bridge in North Irwin is set to start after 12 years of planning, with a $5.7 million contract awarded. The project, funded by federal and county sources, aims to improve connectivity for emergency services and local traffic.

Westmoreland County has awarded a $5.7 million contract to Allison Park Contractors for the construction of a new bridge linking North Huntingdon and North Irwin. This bridge, referred to as the Fourth Street Bridge, will span 118 feet over a ravine and railroad tracks, addressing a significant gap in local transportation since the old bridge was demolished in May 2023.
Construction is expected to begin by the end of 2026, with completion anticipated by 2028. Funding includes $3.7 million from federal sources and $2 million from county impact fees related to natural gas production. Additionally, $3.1 million has been allocated for rehabilitation of three other local bridges in Derry Township, emphasizing ongoing infrastructure improvements in the region.
