Norway Receives First Leopard 2A8NOR Tanks from Germany
Norway has begun receiving its first Leopard 2A8NOR tanks, with 54 units procured under a NOK 23-23.4 billion contract. This delivery marks a significant advancement in Norway's military capabilities and integration of modern combat systems.

On April 27, 2026, Norway received its first two Leopard 2A8NOR tanks, marking the start of deliveries approved by the Norwegian parliament in 2023. The total program includes 54 tanks, with 37 units to be assembled domestically by Ritek and 17 delivered fully assembled from Germany.
The procurement contract, signed in February 2023 with KNDS as the prime contractor, transitioned from the Leopard 2A7NO to the Leopard 2A8NOR due to updated requirements. The tanks feature enhanced electronic architecture for real-time connectivity and are equipped with a fully digital fire control system.
The active protection system and modular armor enhance defense against various threats. Operational readiness is expected in 2027 for units based in Rena and in 2028 for northern units. This modernization effort aims to replace older Leopard 2A4NOs and enhance Norway's military capabilities in joint operations.
