The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved a $167 million digital modernization project at the Constellation-owned Limerick Clean Energy Center in Pennsylvania. This project will replace certain analog instrumentation and control systems with digital platforms during scheduled refueling outages, enhancing safety and cybersecurity.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Light Water Reactor Sustainability Program, it represents a significant upgrade in operational nuclear facilities in the U.S. The Limerick facility produces 2,317 megawatts of power for over 1.7 million households.
This upgrade is part of Constellation's broader $5.1 billion investment in Pennsylvania, which aims to preserve 5,100 megawatts of existing capacity and add 1,200 megawatts. The project is expected to create thousands of skilled jobs and boost local economies during the installation phases.
