Odisha Government to Fast-Track City Gas Distribution Infrastructure Expansion
The Odisha government is fast-tracking the expansion of city gas distribution (CGD) infrastructure to enhance energy security amid global fuel market instability. A meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg established a deadline of June 30 for clearing all pending pipeline-laying approvals.
Key participants included senior officials and representatives from GAIL, BPCL, and Adani Total Gas. The initiative aims to promote Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as cleaner alternatives to LPG.
Urban local bodies will waive fees for road restoration, and a state-level nodal officer will ensure coordination among departments. The expansion of CGD networks is expected to improve energy access, support small businesses, and create jobs, aligning with national goals for increasing natural gas's share in the energy mix.
