Oglethorpe Power Selects Kiewit to Build 1,425 MW Gas Plant in Georgia
Oglethorpe Power has selected Kiewit Corporation's subsidiary, TIC, to construct a 1,425-MW combined-cycle natural gas power plant in Monroe County, Georgia, with construction beginning in Spring 2026 and commercial operations expected by 2029. The project aims to meet the electricity demands of Oglethorpe's 38 cooperatives serving 4.7 million customers and will utilize GE Vernova's 7HA.03 gas turbines. Peak construction is projected to create around 1,200 jobs, while 30 permanent positions are currently being filled.

The project aims to support electricity demand for Oglethorpe's 38 cooperatives serving 4.7 million customers. It will use GE Vernova's 7HA.03 gas turbines and is projected to generate significant property and sales tax revenue for the county. Peak construction will employ around 1,200 workers, with recruitment starting in June 2026, alongside 30 permanent positions being filled now.
