Senator Gbenga Daniel and Ogun State House Assembly members are addressing a land dispute between 16 communities of Apunren-Ijebu and the Nigerian Army in Ijebu-North East Local Council. The controversy intensified following alleged demolitions by the Army on community homes and farms.
Daniel visited the affected communities on January 11, 2025, to mediate the conflict. Community leaders claim the Army has exceeded its 1977 land allocation of 1,791 acres, affecting over 7,000 residents.
Daniel pledged to present the case to the Senate for investigation, with a session planned for January 27, 2026. The State Assembly has promised to take immediate action regarding military land acquisition, with Speaker Oludaisi Elemide conducting assessments and engaging the Executive for resolution. The dispute has persisted for nearly 50 years and has led to significant distress and loss of life among residents.
