Ogun-Oshun River Basin Authority Advances Hydropower and Food Security Initiatives
The Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority is revitalizing the Oyan and Ikere Gorge dams for hydropower, aiming to contribute significant megawatts to the national grid by the end of President Tinubu's second term. The authority has also constructed over 400 solar-powered boreholes and 77 greenhouse farms to enhance food production and security across its catchment states.

The Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority is actively progressing projects to harness the Oyan Dam and Ikere Gorge Dam for hydropower, targeting 136 megawatts for the national grid before the end of President Tinubu's second term. The authority has constructed over 400 solar-powered boreholes and initiated 12 dam projects to address water scarcity and enhance irrigation for agriculture.
Reports of project abandonment are inaccurate; construction varies seasonally. The authority has built 77 greenhouse farms and plans to add 220 more, contributing to food security by stabilizing market prices.
Increased funding under the current administration, with this year's budget at N57 billion, is facilitating these initiatives. These efforts aim to significantly improve the food production landscape in Nigeria, with continued focus required to tackle food insecurity effectively.
