Olds Data Centre Proposal Faces Regulatory Review and Rezoning Approval
Olds town council has approved the rezoning for a $10 billion data centre by Synapse Data Center Inc. The Alberta Utilities Commission has returned the project's application for significant deficiencies, requiring a new submission with updated information.

The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) has closed the application for Synapse Data Center Inc.'s proposed $10 billion data centre due to significant deficiencies. Regulators are collaborating closely with Synapse, meeting weekly to ensure a thorough understanding of the regulatory landscape.
The project aims to establish a 1.4 gigawatt natural gas-fired power plant near Olds to supply necessary electricity. Concerns have been raised by nearby residents regarding emissions and noise. Synapse plans to submit a revised application that addresses regulatory feedback and includes updated environmental studies.
