Ontario Beef Research Centre Enhances Livestock Research and Methane Reduction Efforts
The Ontario Beef Research Centre (OBRC) focuses on improving farm-level efficiency through genetics, feeding strategies, and methane mitigation. Its advancements in precision feeding and ongoing trials are positioned to address critical challenges in the beef industry.

Since its inception in 2019, the Ontario Beef Research Centre has expanded its capabilities, housing 280 cows and a precision feed facility aimed at enhancing feed technology. The feedlot, with a capacity for 280 head, supports research trials that track cattle from breeding to processing, offering unique insights into the supply chain.
Current projects include evaluating the use of 3-Nitrooxypropanol (3NOP) to reduce methane emissions in cattle. Researchers are also exploring the nutritional value of milk-processing byproducts to lower feed costs. With significant advancements in precision feeding and genetics, the OBRC is well-positioned to contribute valuable data to the beef industry, particularly concerning methane reduction and feed efficiency.
