Opposition to Jeju Offshore Rocket Launch by Military and Hanwha
Civic groups oppose the recent offshore rocket launch attempt by Hanwha and military, citing safety and environmental concerns.

On June 30, an attempted offshore rocket launch by Hanwha Aerospace and the military was canceled due to technical issues. This incident follows an explosion at Hanwha's Daejeon facility where at least 13 workers have died in past years.
Local groups argue that the launch disregarded residents' safety and rights, as many were unaware of the launch preparations. Hanwha is implicated in potential environmental harm due to plans for solid and liquid fuel facilities that could pollute local water sources.
Calls for a comprehensive review of the space and defense industries have emerged, with 306 signatures submitted to local officials. The Jeju Provincial Government's collaboration with military interests is also under scrutiny, as it may jeopardize local ecosystems and communities.
