Orange County Students Excel at National History Day; Community Initiatives Recognized
Two student groups from Orange County achieved first place at National History Day, an annual competition showcasing original historical research. Samantha Bailey from the Orange County School of the Arts won in the Senior Individual Exhibit category for her project on marriage rights.
Over 500,000 students participated this year. Kavin Patel, 17, received the Congressional Award Gold Medal, requiring 400 hours of public service, 200 hours of personal development, and 200 hours of physical fitness.
He co-founded Support for Seniors, offering assistance to older adults in technology and wellness. Petty Officer 2nd Class Aryan Saphir from Irvine serves in the U.S. Navy as an aviation structural mechanic.
A new sign on the 91 Freeway honors Detective Terry Lee Fincher of the Brea Police Department, who died in the line of duty. Additionally, the Junior League of Orange County celebrated 'Find the Good Day' by supporting transitional youth at Orangewood Foundation.
