Orlen to Build Hydrogen Hub in Szczecin with Torpol for 75 Million PLN
Orlen is investing 75 million PLN to construct a hydrogen hub in Szczecin, producing up to 90 kg of automotive-grade hydrogen per hour. This project, part of the 'Clean Cities - Hydrogen Mobility in Poland' initiative, aims to enhance hydrogen infrastructure and support Poland's zero-emission transport goals.
Orlen is set to establish a hydrogen hub in Szczecin, slated for operational launch in late 2027 or early 2028, with an investment of 75 million PLN, managed by Torpol Oil & Gas. The facility will utilize renewable energy sources to produce hydrogen via a 5 MW electrolyzer, achieving an hourly output of 90 kg, totaling 2,160 kg per day.
This hub is a crucial component of Orlen's strategy to develop a comprehensive hydrogen supply chain in Poland, supported by a 62 million euro grant from the EU. The Szczecin hub complements Orlen’s ongoing projects in Płock, Włocławek, and Gdańsk, enhancing national hydrogen production and distribution capabilities. The investment reflects a growing reliance on domestic companies in strategic energy projects.
