Orora Upgrades G3 Glass Furnace in Gawler with $130M Investment and Government Grant
Orora has completed a $130 million upgrade of the G3 glass furnace in Gawler, supported by a $12.5 million Australian Government grant. The project will reduce natural gas consumption by 32% and eliminate over 13,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, with NOₓ emissions down by more than 70%. The new oxy-fuel melting technology enhances thermal efficiency and boosts electric capacity, aligning with Orora's 2035 sustainability goals.

Orora has invested $130 million to upgrade the G3 glass furnace at its Gawler site, aided by a $12.5 million grant from the Australian Government. This upgrade has led to a 32% reduction in natural gas consumption and is expected to eliminate over 13,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, while reducing NOₓ emissions by more than 70%.
The furnace uses oxy-fuel melting technology, increasing thermal efficiency and electric boosting capacity. The site can now produce over 475 tonnes of glass daily, positioning Orora to meet its 2035 sustainability commitments.
