Outstanding Power Dues in Jammu and Kashmir Exceed Rs 3,747 Crore
Jammu and Kashmir's total outstanding power dues have reached Rs 3,747 crore, highlighting significant liabilities in various departments. The Public Health Engineering and security forces are among the top defaulters, indicating challenges in revenue collection for the power sector.

The Jammu and Kashmir government reported outstanding electricity dues totaling Rs 3,747.35 crore, primarily owed by key infrastructure and security-linked departments. The Public Health Engineering (PHE) department is the largest defaulter with dues of Rs 1,300.43 crore, followed by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department at Rs 580.60 crore.
Security agencies, including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Army, account for substantial portions of the liabilities. The government, through power distribution companies (DISCOMs), is actively pursuing recovery of these dues, which poses a significant risk to financial stability in the region.
