Oyo State Governor Warns of Bandit Threats Following Deadly Attack at National Park
Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, has reiterated concerns about bandits from Mali attempting to enter Nigeria, following a deadly attack on the Old Oyo National Park Service office in Oloka, which resulted in the deaths of at least five park officials. The attack occurred on a Tuesday evening, with the assailants seizing weapons and fleeing into nearby forests.
Oyo State police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka confirmed the incident, and police commissioner Femi Haruna has deployed tactical units for assessment. Preliminary findings suggest that the attackers specifically crossed into Oyo to execute the assault.
This incident revives concerns about cross-border threats and the vulnerability of Oyo's border communities to armed infiltration, echoing earlier warnings from 2020 about the infiltration of organized criminal groups into the region. Investigations are ongoing to determine any links between the attackers and previously identified groups.
