Pakistan Develops Mobile App for Petrol Subsidy Distribution Amid Energy Crisis
The Pakistani government is preparing to launch a mobile application aimed at distributing petrol subsidies to low-income individuals as part of its response to the ongoing energy crisis. The app is currently in testing and targets two- and three-wheeler owners with a proposed monthly petrol quota of 20 litres for motorcycles. The subsidy system will involve approximately 12,000 petrol pumps and a digital verification process for fuel dispensing. Users will be linked to their vehicle registration for quota management, with additional monitoring systems established for emergencies.

The Pakistani Ministry of Information Technology & Telecom is developing a mobile app to distribute petrol subsidies to low-income groups amid an energy crisis. The app, currently in testing, primarily targets two- and three-wheeler owners, proposing a monthly quota of 20 litres for motorcycles.
The government has yet to finalize decisions on subsidies for vehicles up to 800cc. Approximately 12,000 petrol pumps will implement a digital verification process for dispensing subsidized fuel. Each pump will have mobile devices for operation, and consumers will receive vouchers through the app linked to their vehicle registration and national identity card, ensuring transparency. A 24-hour monitoring system will address consumer complaints and manage operations.
