Pakistan's HIT Seeks Forgings for Saudi Arabia's Project P251 Artillery System
Pakistan's Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) has issued a tender for long-lead forgings for the Project P251, a 155 mm/52-calibre Truck Mounted Artillery Gun System being developed for Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI). The tender seeks high-quality alloys, specifically 35NiCrMoV15Mod, to meet NATO standards, and covers key components for the artillery system, excluding the barrel. This project, initiated in 2021, is expected to shape future Pakistani defense procurement strategies.

On January 21, 2026, Pakistan's Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) issued a tender for long-lead forgings for Project P251, a 155 mm/52-calibre Truck Mounted Artillery Gun System (TMAGS) being developed for Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI). HIT was selected as the prime contractor for this self-propelled howitzer in 2022.
Project P251 is a continuation of HIT's earlier efforts on an indigenous 155 mm artillery gun initiated in 2021. The tender requests high-quality alloys, particularly 35NiCrMoV15Mod, to meet NATO or near-NATO standards as required by the Saudi military.
The tender covers components for the recoil system, breech components, and carriage, excluding the barrel, which can be manufactured in Pakistan. The alloys must withstand temperatures as low as -40°C, indicating SAMI's need for versatility in different operating environments. Project P251 is anticipated to influence future Pakistani defense procurement strategies.
