Parti Québécois Convention Votes Against Barring Oil and Gas Pipeline Projects in Quebec

NATURAL GAS

The Parti Québécois (PQ) has indicated that it would not rule out future oil or gas pipeline projects in Quebec. During a convention in Saint-Hyacinthe, delegates voted against a resolution that aimed to prohibit such developments.

Proponents of the resolution argued it could limit industrial access to natural gas essential for economic growth, but the motion was defeated by a strong majority. Oil and gas pipeline initiatives have gained attention as a means to export hydrocarbons from Western Canada to markets in the United States and internationally. Discussions were held last year regarding a proposed gas pipeline connecting Western Canada to Baie-Comeau, Quebec, as part of a liquefied natural gas export terminal project.
