PCL Construction to Build $4B Bison Generation Station in North Dakota for Basin Electric
Basin Electric Power Cooperative has awarded PCL Construction a $4 billion contract to build the Bison Generation Station, a dual-unit natural gas power plant in Williams County, North Dakota. The facility will consist of two 745-MW units, generating approximately 1.5 GW when operational, starting in 2029. The project, managed in collaboration with Burns & McDonnell, aims to support load growth from industrial and residential sectors. Peak construction is expected to employ around 1,000 workers, with commercial operations beginning in 2030.

Basin Electric Power Cooperative has selected PCL Construction to construct a $4 billion natural gas generation facility, the Bison Generation Station, in Williams County, North Dakota. The dual-unit combined-cycle plant, with two 745-MW units, will produce about 1.49 GW, slated to begin operations in 2029.
Construction will start this spring, with peak employment reaching approximately 1,000 workers in 2027. The plant aims to meet growing demand from various sectors while complementing Basin Electric’s renewable energy efforts. Commercial operations are projected to commence in 2030.
