Pennsylvania Issues Permit for 15 Natural Gas Generators for AI Data Center in Clearfield County
Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection has granted a permit to Iron City Wells LLC for the construction of 15 natural gas-fired generators in Karthaus Township, Clearfield County, to support an AI data center. The permit stipulates emissions limits and monitoring, with projected annual emissions capped at nearly 52,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent and various other pollutants. This initiative responds to the growing energy demands associated with the rapid expansion of AI technology in the U.S.

Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection has issued a permit to Iron City Wells LLC for the construction of 15 natural gas-fired electric generators in Karthaus Township, Clearfield County. These generators will serve an AI data center at the Iron City No.1 Power Generator and Compute Center.
The permit includes specific requirements for emissions limits and monitoring. The projected emissions from the generators are capped at 19.93 tons of nitrogen oxides, 29.52 tons of carbon monoxide, 20.43 tons of volatile organic compounds, 3.03 tons of particulate matter, 0.92 ton of hazardous air pollutants, 0.20 ton of sulfur oxides, and 51,759 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year. The approval aligns with the increasing energy demands driven by rapid AI expansion in the US.
