Pennsylvania Natural Gas Impact Fees Reach $244 Million for 2025
Pennsylvania's natural gas impact fees for 2025 increased to $243.8 million, a 48% rise driven by new wells and higher gas prices. The funding supports local governments, environmental initiatives, and state programs, reflecting the state's ongoing commitment to resource management and community support.

For 2025, Pennsylvania's natural gas impact fees total $243.8 million, a 48% increase from the previous year. The rise is attributed to 444 new gas wells drilled in 2024, up from 309, and an increase in natural gas prices to $3.43 per million BTU.
Distribution includes $133.8 million for affected counties and municipalities, $89.2 million for the Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund, and $20.9 million for state agencies, as mandated by Act 13. Since 2012, over $3.12 billion has been distributed from these fees, with the state also adjusting the tax rate annually for inflation. This funding will be allocated to various local entities, enhancing infrastructure and environmental projects, but may raise concerns about dependence on fluctuating gas prices.
