Pentagon Awards $68M for Hypersonic Technology Development to Six Firms
The Pentagon's Joint Hypersonics Transition Office has allocated $68 million to six vendors to expedite hypersonic technologies. The U.S. Army's Dark Eagle, the first ground-launched hypersonic weapon, is set for delivery by early 2026. Companies involved include Starfighters Space, Rocket Lab, Intuitive Machines, Kratos Defense, and Joby Aviation, all receiving funding to enhance production and testing capabilities in the hypersonic sector.

The Pentagon has awarded $68 million to six companies to accelerate hypersonic technology development. The U.S. Army’s Dark Eagle, a ground-launched hypersonic weapon, is expected to be delivered by early 2026.
Key firms include Starfighters Space, which has completed wind tunnel testing for its STARLAUNCH vehicle and supports GE Aerospace's ATLAS program, and Rocket Lab, which is preparing for a hypersonic test mission. Intuitive Machines acquired Lanteris Space Systems for $800 million to enhance its capabilities. Kratos Defense received $65 million for training solutions, while Joby Aviation plans to double aircraft production at a new facility in Ohio by 2027.
