Pentagon to Test Valar Atomics' Advanced Nuclear Reactor at Hill Air Force Base in Utah

DEFENSE

The Department of War and the Department of Energy will transport an advanced nuclear reactor developed by Valar Atomics from March Air Reserve Base, California, to Hill Air Force Base, Utah, on February 15. The reactor will be tested at the Utah San Rafael Energy Research Center as part of Executive Order 14301, which seeks to achieve reactor criticality in the U.S. by July 4, 2026.

Valar Atomics' WardZero prototype has been tested in Los Angeles and incorporates TRISO fuel. The initiative is viewed as a step towards restoring U.S. nuclear leadership and enhancing energy resilience at military installations.
