Pertamina Plans Merger of Three Subholdings to Enhance Efficiency in Oil and Gas Sector
PT Pertamina Persero is embarking on a significant restructuring initiative, aiming to merge three of its downstream subholdings: PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, and PT Pertamina International Shipping. This merger is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, as noted by CEO Simon Aloysius Mantiri during a recent hearing with the House of Representatives.
The decision to consolidate these subholdings is part of a broader strategy to enhance operational efficiency and adapt to the evolving landscape of the oil and gas industry. Simon explained that while Pertamina had previously established separate subholdings for upstream and downstream operations to bolster sustainability and performance, the current market dynamics necessitate a reevaluation of its organizational structure. The proposed merger may result in a new corporate identity, possibly adopting the name "Patra Kilang Shipping."
This strategic move aligns with Pertamina's commitment to optimizing its existing business while simultaneously advancing its sustainability agenda. The company is focused on maximizing upstream operations, ensuring refinery flexibility, transforming its retail business, and expanding its infrastructure. Additionally, Pertamina is dedicated to developing low-emission business ventures, including biofuels, chemical product processing, geothermal capacity enhancement, and low-carbon technologies.
By July 2025, these efforts are anticipated to yield significant results, with Pertamina projecting revenues of approximately Rp672 trillion and total oil and gas production exceeding 1 million barrels of oil equivalent per day. The company aims to maintain a high yield of valuable refinery output, further emphasizing its commitment to delivering high-value products in a competitive market.
