Peru Approves Three VCS Methodologies for National Carbon Registry
Peru's government has approved three new methodologies under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) for its National Registry of Mitigation Measures (RENAMI), focusing on food waste reduction, solid waste recycling, and landfill methane recovery. This expansion enhances eligible VCS projects and underscores the significance of carbon markets in advancing Peru's climate objectives. Last year, Peru recognized the VCS Program for certifying carbon credits and previously approved five methodologies.

Peru's government has approved three additional methodologies under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program for use in the National Registry of Mitigation Measures (RENAMI). The methodologies include VM0046 for reducing food loss and waste, VMR0007 for solid waste recycling, and AMS-III.G for landfill methane recovery.
This approval expands the types of VCS projects eligible under RENAMI and highlights the role of carbon markets in Peru's climate goals. Last year, Peru recognized the VCS Program as an eligible mechanism for certifying carbon credits and approved five VCS methodologies. The integration of these methodologies supports regional compliance markets and advances climate action in the country.
