Petrobras Suspends Operations at Two Fertilizer Units in Brazil
Petrobras has halted production at its Ansa and Fafen fertilizer units, affecting two key facilities in Brazil. The shutdowns align with the company's strategic goals and the national plan to reduce fertilizer imports amid ongoing market fluctuations.
Petrobras has suspended operations at its fertilizer units Ansa and Fafen due to technical issues and maintenance needs. The Ansa unit in Parana has been idle since April 30 because of a compressor room incident, while Fafen in Sergipe is halted due to power supply damage.
Both units had recently resumed operations after long shutdowns, with Ansa restarting on April 30 and Fafen's ammonia production starting on December 31. These units are significant, with Ansa producing 720,000 t/yr of urea and Fafen capable of 650,000 t/yr.
Brazil's fertilizer consumption exceeded 49.1 million tons in 2025, predominantly reliant on imports. The reduced production could exacerbate dependency on foreign fertilizers and impact domestic agricultural practices.
