PetroChina Fuel Oil Receives First Methanol Bunkering License in Zhoushan, China
PetroChina Fuel Oil's subsidiary, Zhejiang Free Trade Zone PetroChina Fuel Oil Co. Ltd, has received the first methanol bunkering license in Zhoushan, China. Issued on December 24, the license permits the company to offer methanol bunkering services to international vessels for three years, marking a significant step in promoting cleaner marine fuels.
The company is initiating discussions with shipping operators and shipbuilders to commence its first methanol bunkering operation. In 2025, Zhoushan achieved a bonded bunkering volume of 8.03 million metric tonnes, a 10.6% increase from the previous year, positioning it among the top three bunkering ports globally.
The city has implemented various measures to improve green fuel infrastructure, including the establishment of LNG and liquid ammonia bunkering facilities and the introduction of electronic bunker delivery notes. These efforts aim to enhance Zhoushan's competitiveness in the maritime fuel market.
