PG&E Implements AI Tool Neutron at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) has partnered with Atomic Canyon to deploy Neutron, a generative AI tool, at Diablo Canyon Power Plant. This initiative aims to streamline regulatory processes and improve operational efficiency in light of extended plant operations until 2030.

PG&E, facing regulatory deadlines and workforce attrition, has introduced Neutron, the first generative AI tool at a US nuclear power plant, aiming to enhance document retrieval efficiency. Developed in collaboration with Atomic Canyon, Neutron integrates data from six systems, allowing staff to locate required documents swiftly via a web-based interface.
Following its pilot in early 2024, Neutron was rolled out to all 1,300 employees by fall 2025. Early results indicate a dramatic reduction in document retrieval time, improving project timelines significantly. The deployment of Neutron could influence future regulatory filings and facility construction, enhancing operational capabilities amid rising energy demand.
