Philippine Army Dismisses Colonel for Withdrawing Support from President Marcos Amid Corruption Scandal

DEFENSE

Col. Audie A. Mongao of the Philippine Army was dismissed after he announced his withdrawal of support from President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. due to a corruption scandal affecting the administration.

Mongao, a 34-year veteran, stated that the President has lost his moral authority to lead. The Army Commanding General, Lt. Gen.

Antonio Nafarrete, acted swiftly to relieve Mongao from his position to facilitate an investigation. Malacañang confirmed that due process would be followed in this case. Mongao's stance was supported by the United People's Initiative, a group of retired military officers calling for Marcos's resignation over alleged corruption in infrastructure projects. The Army Training Command is examining potential administrative and legal charges against Mongao.
