DEFENSE

The Philippines and Brunei Darussalam reinforced their bilateral relations during the 4th Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) on December 15. Co-chaired by Philippine Undersecretary Leo Herrera-Lim and Brunei's Permanent Secretary Pengiran Norhashimah, the meeting reviewed milestones since the August 2023 JCBC, including cooperation agreements and high-level official visits.

Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in defense, trade, agriculture, and peace initiatives in Mindanao. The officials also aimed to strengthen ties in education, health, labor, tourism, culture, and diplomatic training.

The JCBC served as a platform for discussing regional and global developments, including the Philippines' upcoming ASEAN chairmanship. Additionally, Herrera-Lim met with Brunei's Second Foreign Minister to further discuss bilateral relations and regional issues.
