Picatinny Arsenal Receives Historic M1897 Cannon for Engineering and Training Use
Picatinny Arsenal has acquired a historic M1897 Quick Firing Field Gun, previously held by the Center of Military History, for use in engineering courses at Armaments University to assist students with ballistic calculations. Meanwhile, U.S. Army Soldiers and engineers are collaborating on turret systems for armored vehicles, utilizing virtual and augmented reality tools to enhance design and operational evaluations, with the Objective Commander's Weapon Station currently in production for the Armored Multipurpose Vehicle.

Picatinny Arsenal, NJ has regained ownership of an M1897 Quick Firing Field Gun, last held by the Center of Military History since 2003. The 75mm cannon, originally used in World War I, will be utilized in engineering courses at Armaments University, aiding students in ballistic calculations.
Concurrently, U.S. Army Soldiers are collaborating with engineers at the Armaments Center to develop turret systems for armored vehicles, including the Objective Commander's Weapon Station (OCWS) for the Armored Multipurpose Vehicle (AMPV).
Engineers are using virtual and augmented reality tools to enhance the design process and conduct operational evaluations. Recent studies indicate that the integration of VR testbeds improves soldier performance metrics and situational awareness. The OCWS turret is currently in production for all AMPV variants, with units being fielded in Fort Stewart, GA.
