PIDC Marks 25 Years of Redevelopment at Philadelphia Navy Yard

DEFENSE

The Philadelphia Navy Yard, previously the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, has transformed over the past 25 years since its closure in 1996, which resulted in significant job losses. PIDC, Philadelphia's public-private economic development corporation, took control of the site in 2000, initiating a public-private partnership for redevelopment.

Currently, the Navy Yard houses over 150 companies and more than 16,000 employees, attracting billions in investment and recognized as the largest LEED® Neighborhood Development in the U.S. To commemorate the milestone, PIDC released a documentary titled 'Legacy & Horizon: 25 Years of Transformation,' showcasing the site's evolution. The Navy Yard's future includes plans for thousands of new homes, retail spaces, and advanced manufacturing facilities, expected to create thousands of jobs and enhance Philadelphia's economic growth.
