A natural gas pipeline linked to the Delfin LNG project in southwestern Louisiana exploded on Tuesday during routine maintenance. The incident involved a 28-mile pipeline, prompting operators to shut down gas flows and flare remaining fuel between the valve and the explosion site.
One pipeline operator sustained injuries. Delfin Midstream owns the pipeline; however, the company was unavailable for immediate comment. The Delfin LNG project is still in the fundraising phase and has not yet begun construction.
Concurrently, shares of major alternative investment firms fell sharply due to concerns over artificial intelligence disrupting software companies. Blue Owl Capital Inc. led the decline, with other firms like Ares Management Corp., KKR & Co., and TPG Inc. also experiencing significant drops. UBS analysts predict private credit default rates could rise to 13% amid these disruptions.
