Plans for 1 GW AI Data Centre in Western Australia
Gingerah Energy is set to develop a 1 gigawatt data centre in WA's Kimberley region, aiming to enhance AI training capabilities by 2032. This initiative highlights a significant shift towards large-scale, renewable-powered data facilities.

Gingerah Energy is planning to construct a 1 gigawatt data centre in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, with a projected opening in 2032. The facility will initially provide 240 megawatts of IT capacity, with future expansions aiming to quadruple this capacity.
The site will leverage wind, solar, and natural gas, and will incorporate a closed-loop water system for cooling, differing from traditional evaporative cooling methods. Environmental studies will commence soon, followed by an assessment by WA's Environmental Protection Authority.
Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2029 or early 2030. The project is a joint venture involving the Karajarri Traditional Lands Association, Fugro, and Longreach Capital Investment. While there is support from some traditional owners, opinions within the KTLA are mixed regarding the project's impact.
