PM Highlights Audit Irregularities in Major Infrastructure Projects
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman cited audit findings revealing significant financial discrepancies in major projects, including Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and Padma Bridge. The revelations underscore the need for accountability and fiscal responsibility in infrastructure development.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman reported extensive irregularities in infrastructure projects, notably the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, which exceeded costs compared to similar projects in neighboring countries. The Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) audit highlighted excessive expenses, including a Tk80,000 pillow and inflated costs for furnishing residential facilities for foreign personnel.
Additionally, he revealed Tk35,000 crore was misappropriated from the Local Government Engineering Department, with Tk6,000 crore missing in one district. The financial burden of inflated project costs affects all citizens, complicating public service improvements across sectors. These findings necessitate urgent reforms to enhance fiscal accountability.
