PM Modi Visits Odisha Train Accident Site; Health Minister Mobilizes Response Efforts

DEFENSE

On June 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the site of a triple-train accident in Balasore, Odisha, a day after the incident. He contacted Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, instructing him to mobilize a team to the site.

Mandaviya, who was in Hyderabad, arrived quickly and coordinated the dispatch of a special team of doctors from AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital to manage the crisis, particularly the identification and preservation of bodies. Due to limited local resources, Mandaviya arranged for refrigerated vessels from Paradip and Dhamara ports to help preserve the deceased amidst hot weather.

A special Indian Air Force flight delivered necessary embalming equipment. Additional doctors were called in from AIIMS Nagpur, Raipur, and Bibinagar to expedite the embalming process. A helpdesk was established at AIIMS Bhubaneswar to support families with food and water during the crisis, ensuring minimal inconvenience.
