Poland Achieves Record Gas Consumption and Exports to Ukraine Surge 13-Fold

NATURAL GAS

On February 2, Poland reported a record gas transmission of nearly 115 million cubic meters, while domestic demand for high-methane gas reached a historic high of 102.8 million cubic meters, according to Gaz-System President Sławomir Hinc. The monthly gas transmission in January 2026 surpassed 3 billion cubic meters, a 45% increase compared to January 2025, driven by increased demand due to severe winter conditions and a rise in exports.

In 2025, gas exports totaled 2 billion cubic meters, with 99% directed to Ukraine, marking a 13-fold increase from 2024. Daily exports are currently around 10 million cubic meters, half of the regasification capacity of the LNG terminal in Świnoujście.

Gaz-System also noted that the national transmission system can handle daily consumption of 170 million cubic meters, supported by upcoming infrastructure enhancements, including a floating LNG terminal in Gdańsk, expected to commence operations in early 2028. An Open Season procedure for a second floating terminal is planned for February 2026.
