Poland Sets Record Electricity Demand at 27.7 GW Amid Severe Cold Temperatures

NATURAL GAS

On February 2, Poland reported a record electricity demand of 27.7 GW net, attributed to extreme cold temperatures dropping below -20°C in some regions. The same day, a peak generation of 29.8 GW net was recorded.

This follows another high demand on February 1. During peak demand, Poland exported significant energy volumes and provided emergency supplies to Ukraine. The previous record was 27.6 GW net set on January 9, 2026.

Additionally, on February 1, natural gas flows reached a record of nearly 115 million cubic meters, with a demand of 102.8 million cubic meters. The gas transmission system can currently handle daily consumption of 170 million cubic meters, supported by new infrastructure projects. Despite the high demand, Poland's energy system maintained stability and operational reserves, ensuring no balance issues were anticipated.
